Technical: Plug-in Error "The request failed with HTTP status 401 unauthorized"

"The request failed with HTTP status 401 unauthorized"

You may get the above error when attempting to execute a Plugin in a Microsoft Dyamics CRM 4.0 Enterprise Edition multi tennant environment.

You may find that your plugin works perfectly on the default organisation but fails for any subsequent errors. This is a recognised bug by Microsoft and they have provided a HOTFIX.

You can download the HOTFIX from: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/948746

Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 to GP Connector

Hi Guys,

Been away for a bit and just been doing some catching up.

Reading through some of the Microsoft forums, it appears that the much anticipated (to some) release if the Dynamics CRM 4.0 connector to Dynamics GP will not eventuate.

In the blog post on the forum some users who sound as though they have been hanging out for the solution have been disappointed with the confirmation from Microsoft that there are currently no plans to develop the connector.

To read the post follow the link below:
http://forums.microsoft.com/Dynamics/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=3094706&SiteID=27

This is a little disappointing since the connector, in version 3.0 anyway, was quite easy to use. Even though it was a little restrictive it allowed a fairly "non techie" person to come in an manage integration between CRM and GP.

Probably what is more disappointing is the expectation that was put out there that the connector would be available some time during 2008.

Anyway I guess we'll have to move onto using Third Party integration tools such as Scribe or implementing BizTalk.

Happy Integrating.

INFO: Upgrade from CRM 3.0 to 4.0

Thinking of upgrading from CRM 3.0 to Dynamics CRM 4.0?
It's not as simple as you may think. CRM 3.0 in comparison to CRM 4.0 is a giant leap in functionality and technology required to run it.

It is not a matter of just plugging in the CRM 4.0 disc and clicking next, next, next. Well it is when you have brought your infrastructure up to the following specifications.

The following specifications are a simplified list only. Full details can be found within the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 Planning guide.

Server Side:

Unfortunately you will need a valid Internet connection to enable the install to download the latest updates and requirements. This can be overcome, but shall be included in another post.

1. Operating System - Windows 2003 Server SP2
2. SQL Server - SQL Server 2005 SP2
3. Reporting Services - SQL Server Reporting Services 2005 SP2

Client Side:
As above you may need an Internet connection to continue with the installation, shouldn't me too much of a problem on the workstation.

1. Operating System - at least Windows XP SP2
2. Office - At least Microsoft Office 2003 SP3 (Only if you are running the Outlook client)
3. Web Browser - Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1

As mentioned earlier the above list of requirements is very simplified and is not enough on its own to be confident that your infrastructure is ready to upgrade to CRM 4.0.

It is recommended that if you are considering an upgrade from CRM 3.0 to CRM 4.0 you contact your Microsoft CRM Partner and perform the upgrade with their consultation.

If however, if you are interested and located in Melbourne Australia, you may be eligible for a FREE System Review and Report from CS Consulting (VIC) PTY LTD.
